Buddy Biggs voted Coach Of The Year by High School coaches

By Debbie Dennie, Editor

For Pendleton County Head Basketball Coach Buddy Biggs, it can't get much better. On Tuesday, April 4 he received a call from Courier Journal Sports Editor Jody Demling telling him he had been voted Coach of the Year. "I couldn't believe it," he said.

Each year the Courier Journal takes a poll from each high school basketball coach in the state to see who they think deserves this honor. "Any time your peers reward you with something like this, it is so humbling and overwhelming to say the least," Biggs added.

The 35-year-old coach could not believe what he was hearing on the phone.

This is Biggs fifth season as head basketball coach at Pendleton. The last two years have been like a storybook for the coaches, the team and the fans.

Biggs says his interest in coaching basketball goes back to 1988 when he was a freshman at Northern Kentucky University. "My best friend from childhood, David Neuhaus, was coaching at our old grade school, Holy Family in Covington."

Political candidates very
informative at forum

By Debbie Dennie, Editor

For the first time in about 24 years all of the county and city offices are up for election this year. The city council and mayors races for Falmouth and Butler will be in November. However, there are a large group of candidates running for offices in the May Primary.

Thursday evening was educational and quite informative for those residents who attended the Candidates Community Forum held at Pendleton High School.

This forum is a valuable tool for voters to be able to attend and learn more about the candidates and meet them face to face.

It was organized and conducted by students involved in the Youth Leadership Program at the high school.

JoEllen Mitchell from Adult and Community Education Dept., Teachers Missy Hicks, Andrew Coleman and Michelle Lustenberg, a teacher at the high school who works with Gifted and Talented students. Michelle also helped out with the forum.

Mrs. Mitchell said she remembered when she first came to the county many years ago that the late Dale Dicken had such a forum for the community. "I thought with all the candidates we had that something like that would be nice for the community," she ladded.

In December Mrs. Mitchell talked with Al Cross a University of Kentucky Professor of rural Journalism and ask him to consider

Falmouth accepts county's fire protection proposal

By Roger McKinney, Reporter

The Pendleton County Fiscal Court and the Falmouth City Council met on Wednesday, April 5 at 7 p.m. in Kennett Tavern to discuss the county's recent fire protection proposal. Originally the county proposed that Falmouth be paid $500 for each fire run made outside the city. Then the fiscal court presented a second proposal, where the county would pay Falmouth $100 per fire truck taken to the scene, $12 per firefighter responding to the scene and $75 in fuel costs for each fire run. The Falmouth City Council considered this offer and then presented a counter proposal: The county would pay Falmouth $180 per fire truck responding to the scene, $35 per firefighter responding to the scene and $75 in fuel costs for each fire run. The council also asked that the city be given the first option of establishing a firehouse substation in the area they served, that is, if one was being considered. The Pendleton County Fiscal Court considered the city's counter offer and then presented a fourth proposal: The county would pay Falmouth $150 per fire truck taken to the scene, $20 per firefighter responding to the scene and $75 in fuel costs for each fire run. The fiscal court
