The Pendleton County Wildcats Baseball team went 0-3 last week against a tough stretch of opponents, dropping to 2-15 on the year. The Wildcats traveled to Grant County, and Nicholas before closing out the week at home on senior night against Bishop Brossart.

The Wildcats would travel to play Grant County on April 22 and this one would be all Grant County as the Wildcats couldn’t keep up. Grant County would put up 10 runs in six innings on 12 hits to win this one 10-0. They would also get lots of help from the Wildcats as the error troubles would haunt again, committing eight in the game. The Wildcats would struggle to get things going offensively as they collected three hits in the game, led by Nick Arkenau who had two singles.

Pendleton County would then go onto travel to play Nicholas County on the April 23 as the manpower of their offense would ultimately be too much to handle. It would a close game through two innings remaining scoreless, then Nicholas would get going and wouldn’t slow down. Putting up 10 runs combined in the last three innings, and this would prove to be too much for the Wildcats as they would go onto lose this one 10-0. The Wildcats would show improvement cutting down their errors to only 3 this game. Michael Fultz led the way for the Wildcats offense going 2-2 with two singles.

Pendleton County would finish the week at home for a very important night, as it was senior night. Pendleton County Wildcats seniors: Nick Arkenau, Abraham Beebe, Michael Fultz, Aaron Kirsch, Austin Kirsch, and Jonathon Roenker would all be recognized before the game for their hard work and dedication to the program. The Wildcats would start the game off hot as they would go up 3-0 in the first inning scoring one run on an error by Brossart, and Kevin Miles would drive in two runs on a double. Brossart would tie the game up in the third inning with a homerun. Brossart would then bust the game wide open as the would score a commanding 11 runs in the fourth inning to win this one 14-3. The Wildcats offense was led by Aaron Kirsch, and Kevin Miles as they both went 1-2 with a double.

When asking head coach Nate Jones what he had to say about the week and then what the seniors mean to this team, he had this to say, “We had another stretch of tough opponents. We have flashes where we play really good baseball and keep the games close. We are continuing to learn how to finish these ball games and have confidence in ourselves no matter what’s going on in the game. Thursday’s game against Bishop Brossart we got to celebrate our seniors. They continue to want to lead this team and set the example of what’s it going to take to be a Pendleton County Wildcat. We are excited to see everything they accomplish.”

The Pendleton County Wildcats will be back in action this week as they travel to play district rival Harrison County on April 29, host Boone County on May 3, and finish out the week traveling to Brossart on May 4 for a rematch.
